Join The Wedding Edition as we sit down with Joshua and Charlie Karlsen, discovering the showstopping details of their wedding celebration in the quaint countryside at Euridge Manor in the Cotswolds.
The Story So Far
We met in a Restaurant in Soho in October 2014 where Joshua was working as a waiter. We had a whirlwind romance of three weeks before Charlie moved to America for work. We spent 8 months doing long distance and with Joshua travelling back and forth to the US. When he came back we moved in together. It was quick, but it felt very right.
We bought matching platinum rings with an 18 carrot gold thin band in the middle. We got them engraved with the wedding date and used them as our wedding rings. Charlie also added his late fathers wedding ring on the day of the wedding.
The Venue
Euridge Manor just outside of Bath. Charlie had seen it on Instagram and fell in love with it. Incidentally, Joshua is from in between Bath and Bristol, so only a 30-minute drive for the family (and there were a lot of them).
We had a family and best friends night on the Friday, a dinner for 50 in the orangery where we served Josh’s Favourite middle eastern food on a feasting table. Our guests were excited to experience Opus 11 and Kalon 11 at work. We had our first round of speeches and gave everyone branded biscuits from our company Bisquit.
The day after the wedding we had a barbecue for those who made it back and it was the perfect time to check in with everyone and talk about the day.
The Fashion
Joshua wore a light pink Tom Ford suit and Prada shoes and Charlie a white Alexander McQueen suit and Santoni shoes. Our suits were bought for us as a gift from our friends Elton and David Furnish John.
The Tablescape
The tablescape was designed by Nikki Tibbles and Opus 11. Nikki is from Wild at heart who also did the whole floral decoration. At Opus 11 we love linear, minimalist but elegant and cool tablescapes. We decided on only having flowers rolling off the ends of the table and opted for over 700 candles running down the three long tables. Our tableware was from Maison Margaux which have the most elegant designs around.
Food & Drinks
All food and drinks were from Opus 11. We served our famous Basil infused Summer Tomatoes, Fudgy strawberries, sumac, raw rhubarb, torched radicchio, Thai basil, tomato water and then for mains we had Wagyu beef & native lobster, squash ribbon rose, Roscoff onion filled with braised beef, ginger veil, bone marrow and smoked tapioca sauce.
For dessert we moved upstairs for cocktail hour where served our favourite desserts, Trifle, Bread pudding and Treacle sponge alongside Coffee Margaritas, Peach highballs and Mezcal Picantes.
Entertainment
We had our friend Benedict Cork sing us down the aisle and Red them performed for us in the reception and a four string quartet welcomed us into dinner. Red also performed some power ballads at dinner. LDN entertainment kicked off the party and we finished with Fat Tony until 1am.
The first dance was our favourite song ‘Bless the broken road’ by Rascal Flatts.
Beauty Regime & Wellness
We had facials the week off and tried as much as we could to get some rest beforehand, but it’s a wild build up and getting to the day was a lot.
Favourite Wedding Gifts
We asked for money for the Honeymoon which we will spend on a ton of Sushi.
The Honeymoon
We went to Puglia straight after for a reset which we needed. Puglia was stunning and we did nothing but eat and sleep, so it was perfect. Our Honeymoon is in April next year when we are going to Japan.
Advice
Don’t invite people you don’t know for politics sake. It’s the most important day of your life and you want to look around the room and see everyone you love looking back at you.
Take moments out and don’t worry about speaking to everyone. You’re not being rude, your just busy.
Go away the next day and reset. It’s so overwhelming you need space to breathe.
