Waldorf Astoria Platte Island, Seychelles
Landing on Platte Island is an exhilarating experience – when you touch down on the island’s runway, you’re mere steps from the hotel’s lobby. As its name suggests, the island has an unusual landscape, being completely flat (unlike most other islands in the Seychelles). The advantage to this is the shallow reefs that surround its shores. As for the hotel itself, you’ll see striking modern architecture softened with ornamental shell hangings and tropical greenery. The serene pool sits at the heart of the resort, with a number of sunbeds for two positioned within it – the ideal spot for sampling something from the extensive cocktail menu, served up in a tactile bamboo glass. At each Waldorf Astoria hotel, you’ll find an ornate Peacock bar. This one links two sections of the hotel together, and is where resident barista Dennis (who grew up on a Kenyan coffee plantation) home-roasts and cold brews an array of caffeinated creations. The island is 3km squared, so, naturally, there are 4×4 golf buggies and vintage-style bikes to get you around.
There are only 50 beachside villas dotted across this tropical island, each entered via an impressive winding driveway that leads to a grand doorway (this is where you’ll find your vintage-style bikes parked outside, complete with personalised wooden name plaques). Read more here.
Constance Ephelia, Seychelles
Set in 250 acres of gardens, mangroves and forest, there is so much on offer here, including rock climbing, zip lining, mangrove kayaking, water sports galore and cooking classes. It’s also home to two of the prettiest beaches in Mahé – North Beach is particularly special as it’s very calm and sheltered, with gentle waters all year round while South Beach is surrounded by striking soaring mountains. Couples checking in for their honeymoon can expect little extras such as a cute beachbag on arrival, champagne on ice, room decoration with petals and an all-important voucher for the spa.
Constance Ephelia is for those seeking a sandy-toed fly-and-flop honeymoon, with a dose of Seychelles charm and plenty of activities both for calm seekers – and the more adventurous. Read more here.
Denis Island, Seychelles
Sandy, flower-lined paths link the 23 cottages on the island, hidden away in the lush vegetation, each with their own surreal (and private) stretch of beach. At the tip of the island is the central lodge, the focal point of the island, with the restaurant, bar and pool area fanning out around it. Architecture and interiors blend seamlessly into the surrounding paradise and reflect the island’s rich history. From bowls filled with bleached shells to sculptures crafted from large pieces of coral, the design draws on the island itself.
Exotic photographs of trophy fish caught over the years line the pool table where guests are offered cocktails by a friendly team. They really lean into the game here (and the cocktails) with a refreshing absence of phone signal, WiFi (except for the bar or library), or even TVs in the room. The message is clear: switch off and embrace the stunning location and its go-slow rhythms. The dress code may demand a degree of formality in the evenings, with men asked to wear long trousers, but the tradition here is to leave shoes in the rooms. Couples seeking out the raw beauty of the Seychelles. Cast adrift in its own Old World time capsule, the lavish-yet-low-key family-owned hotel occupies one of the outer coral islands and serves up a thrilling dose of seclusion. Read more here.
