Venue Review: Wasing Park, Berkshire

Tucked away amid the rolling Berkshire countryside, just an hour from London, Wasing Park offers a fairytale wedding experience that feels worlds away from everyday life. This enchanting estate, with the beautifully restored Grade II-listed Castle Barn at its heart, offers a choice of evocative ceremony settings, thoughtfully curated accommodation and a genuine commitment to sustainability, setting the stage for a celebration that’s rich in style and immersed in nature.

Why Wasing Park?

Choosing Wasing Park means choosing an exclusive wedding venue that artfully adapts to every couple’s vision and in which guests can fully unwind, free from outside distractions, surrounded by 2,500 acres of pristine woodland and parkland. There are three distinct spaces to say your ‘I Dos’, including the newly renovated Garden Room, a masterclass in understated design, where rustic oak beams and aged brickwork are offset by sandstone floors and pewter cast-iron radiators. Floor-to-ceiling glass doors flood the room with natural light and afford glimpses of the historic Castle Barn, creating an atmospheric location for civil ceremonies of up to 160 guests.

For those dreaming of exchanging their vows outdoors, the Victorian Summerhouse offers a secluded al fresco location framed by ancient trees and sweeping countryside. Its hand-painted murals, inspired by the estate’s flora and fauna, enhance the idyllic ambiance, and, like the Garden Room, it can host up to 160 guests. Alternatively, couples seeking a more traditional spiritual setting can look to the Church of St Nicholas that also sits within the grounds. Dating back to the 13th century, with stained-glass windows and wooden detailing, this picturesque parish church has room for up to 100 guests. Whichever you choose, the celebrations continue in the Castle Barn, which comfortably seats 160 for dinner and hosts up to 250 for lively evening festivities.

But why limit the celebration to a single day? At Wasing Park, you can extend the fun to two – or three-days – affording your guests the experience of a destination wedding, right here in the UK. Whether it’s a relaxed welcome dinner, an Ale Trail through the grounds or garden games on the lawn, every detail can be tailored to you. Begin the weekend with lakeside yoga or welcome acoustic musicians to perform beneath the stars, as guests gather around the fire pit to toast marshmallows. The morning after the big day, relive every joyful moment over a hearty breakfast or keep the party going with a Pimm’s-fuelled woodland picnic or a spirited cricket match at Wasing’s own pavilion.

Accommodation

At Wasing Park, your nearest and dearest can lay their heads in one of 26 individually designed bedrooms (sleeping up to 64 guests) that blend character with modern comforts. The Honeymoon Suite is a standout; once a hayloft, it has been transformed into an expansive retreat featuring the largest bed in Berkshire, a sumptuous roll-top bath with panoramic views and a cosy seating area that’s perfect for breakfast in your bathrobes. Other highlights include The Granary – originally the estate’s grain store and still perched on its original staddle stones – which offers a charming suite with room for four and an impressive copper bathtub, while The Smithy, a former blacksmith’s workshop, comes complete with a super king-sized bed and spacious en-suite. There’s also The Dovecote, with its unique circular design and custom triangular bed, and 17 further guestrooms spread across the Stables, the Mews and the Pump House.

Further homes on the estate add additional magic to the experience. Kitts Cottage, nestled on the woodland’s edge and sleeping seven, is complimentary for the night before the wedding and provides an intimate space for bridal parties to relax. Just a short stroll from the main venue, Home Farmhouse offers accommodation for 12, perfect for extended family or international guests. Meanwhile, The Grooms Room, overlooking a sunlit courtyard, is a convenient gathering spot for the groom and ushers on the wedding morning.

Food & Drink

Wasing Park’s culinary offering is a celebration of the land, with an ‘Estate to Plate’ ethos underpinning its nose-to-tail menu. The onsite organic farm is home to a herd of red Sussex cattle, meaning prime-quality beef might form the centrepiece of your menu – but there’s plenty more to suit every taste. Couples can opt for succulent lamb, artisan cured meats, award-winning local cheeses like Barkham Blue and Chalk Stream smoked trout from the River Test, complemented by fruit from the estate’s orchards and herbs freshly picked from the gardens. Cocktail hour is elevated with Wasing Gin, distilled onsite and infused with botanicals harvested from the Walled Garden and hedgerows, and as evening falls, the outdoor covered terrace offers a relaxed dining space with wood-fired pizza and street-food options, blending casual charm with culinary flair.

Wellness

What truly sets Wasing Park apart is its focus on wellness and connection to nature, exemplified by its exclusive Wild Swim Lake and Sauna experience. This secluded woodland lake offers couples and their guests a chance to fully decompress and find meaningful moments of calm before or after the wedding day. Tailored experiences can include massage therapists, lakeside catering and, crucially, a Wellbeing Host to ensure every detail runs smoothly. Guests are invited to unwind with herbal teas, an open-water swim in the glassy lake, sessions in the Scandinavian wood-fire sauna or even an invigorating ice bath.

Eco-Credentials

At its core, Wasing Park is committed to sustainability, weaving eco-consciousness into every element of the wedding experience. The organic farm supports a regenerative approach to food, directly supplying the kitchen’s menus with ethically raised produce, while the estate’s biomass heating system is powered by wood chips from its own woodland.

Even wedding favours reflect this ethos. Couples can delight their guests with charming mini bottles of Wasing Gin, sweet jars of Wasing Wild Flower Honey harvested from the estate’s own hives or delicate candles made from honey and wax gathered onsite. In line with these values, table décor can include potted succulents as living gifts for guests to nurture at home as enduring reminders of the day. At the upcoming September Showcase (Sunday 28th and Monday 29th), the Castle Barn will be filled with arrangements of seasonal English flowers freshly cut from the Walled Garden, offering inspiration for couples seeking to blend sustainability with timeless elegance.
