About
Rosebie Morton founded The Real Flower Company in 1995, and is best known for being a sustainable florist. Rosebie was disillusioned with the lack of scented flowers that were available to buy, so she decided to set out to bring scented garden roses back to the market. The Real Flower Company, took advantage of the expanding e-commerce platform and became one of the first to offer bouquets online. Nearly thirty years later the sustainable florist is going from strength to strength and is incredibly proud of growing all the flowers and foliage on their own farms, which are all used in their beautifully scented bouquets and for bespoke wedding and events.
Hand-picked from the Garden
On opening a box from the Real Flower Company, you will be struck immediately by the glorious scent. The seasonal flowers have a just picked from the garden look to them, along with amazing character and texture.
Scent and seasonality
Not only scent and seasonality are of high importance to The Real Flower Company, but equally important is sustainability. The company is based on the farm in Hinton Ampner, Hampshire, nestled in the South Downs National Park, has a fantastic variety of species within the flower paddock. It is both carbon negative and climate positive which means that it is contributing more to the environment through its farming practises than it uses. Bees and other insects are of huge significance and the company uses biologicals in place of pesticides to assist with the growing. Guinea fowl, chickens and ducks help to keep the slugs and snails at bay, and a late evening walk will result in many a hedgehog being spotted ambling through the shrubs.
Carbon negative
With a sister farm in Kenya, that is also Carbon negative. Research has shown, that it is less impactful to bring flowers over from Kenya where they are grown as naturally as possible as it is to bring them in from Holland where they are grown in the winter under lights and heat. Certain garden roses prefer the conditions on the equator to our damp and cold winter climate, so it is a perfect partnership.
The Real Flower Company also has a shop in Parsons Green, along The New Kings Road, where it runs the weddings and events side as well as fulfilling same day deliveries in central London in its logoed electric van. The scent from the shop hits you even before you walk by then entrance, and the staff are often asked if they spray the flowers to make them smell as they do! It’s all down to the varieties which one choose to grow.
