Our incredible personal shopper, Melanie, pulled items by colour – many from independent designers that I hadn’t heard of before, so wouldn’t necessarily have searched for on the site. That’s the beauty of personal shoppers – they introduce you to new and unique brands, and they know exactly what will work best for each occasion!
How does it work?
With the imminent launch of Childrensalon’s personal shopping service for their VIP customers, The Wedding Edition readers are offered an exclusive sneak peak of the service – ideal for any forthcoming occasion or holiday.
A brief consultation with Melanie, conducted via phone or email, sets the stage for a tailored experience. I told her my requisites for two wedding outfits – one for Spring, the other for Summer, both in the UK – along with my personal style preferences and brand inclinations. Specifics regarding my daughter’s preferences – such as a dislike of restrictive clothing and tight-fitting waistbands – were meticulously noted. I mentioned that I prefer her in closed-toe sandals for a smarter look, and so that she doesn’t stub her clumsy little toes! Absolutely every detail was taken into consideration.
An appropriate time is then discussed for the video call to go through the outfits, and a diary invite is promptly dispatched. The appointment itself ranges from thirty minutes to an hour, and once the final items have been selected, they are hand-wrapped and sent out for express delivery, with the option of receiving them in a beautiful branded box.
The appointment
Melanie and I got straight to it, starting with the most important element of the outfits – the dress. She had pulled items from a range of different designers which we went through in sections, starting with Needle & Thread (an OG of occasionwear). We then explored some of the designers I mentioned in our initial chat, before moving onto some of her own recommendations. Amongst these discoveries was a beautiful brand called Beatrice & George – exclusive to Childrensalon – with their unconventional yet traditional floral cotton pieces. Their designs offer a refreshing departure from the holy trinity of smock detailing, puff sleeves and Peter Pan collars that I usually love, and I swiftly shortlisted two dresses for further consideration.
Another revelation was Marlo Kids, an Australian brand echoing the sophistication of Zimmermann’s women’s dresses on a miniature scale. On selecting some of their pieces, I asked Melanie to gently swish them to and fro, to observe their fluidity. I enquired about the snugness of the waistline and sleeves, to ensure my daughter would be comfortable, and I asked to see the lining of the underlayers and petticoats, a crucial factor in assessing twirlability!
We narrowed it down to four dresses – two from Beatrice & George and two from Marlo Kids – and seamlessly transitioned to accessories. Melanie had already curated a comprehensive selection, from cardigans and socks, to hair accessories and handbags, ensuring every detail was perfectly coordinated.
Before the appointment ended, I asked if Melanie would be able to send me a list of any other handbags they had in stock. Shortly after, a curated list of available bags, perfectly complementing our chosen outfits, graced my inbox, underscoring the true efficiency and seamlessness of Childrensalon’s personal shopping experience.
