How We Met…
We met in university at a house party ten years ago and we’ve been inseparable ever since— truly!
Any Hints…
We had talked about marriage in the past, but more as a topic of discussion than as a goal or anything like that. I’d always felt a little less traditionally towards marriage, and didn’t ever see it as a priority. Being committed to each other and being partners for life was always the bigger priority to me – just not so much the traditional marriage part. However, I was never fully against it, so I always left it up in the air. With that all being said, I truly had no signs or hints— it was never on my radar!
The Proposal…
Clayton proposed in New York City, on a beautiful rooftop at the Intercontinental New York Barclay Hotel with an incredible view. New York is one of our favourite places in the world, and we absolutely love spending time there – it is so special to us.
He also completely tricked me into thinking I was headed to a work event with Shopbop so I actually had absolutely no idea at all. It was perfectly executed – the brand was even in on it and sent me gowns to wear for the “event”, my manager knew and was sending me made-up details, and the hotel staff even knew and pretended to be a part of the brand! He really pulled it all off perfectly.
The Ring…
Clayton designed my ring with jeweller David Perry, and chose two stones for a toi-et-moi-style ring that turned out absolutely stunning. He chose a cushion cut canary diamond (yellow is my favourite colour), and a pear cut diamond. I am absolutely love with it!
How We Celebrated…
Since the day we got engaged a little over a year ago, it feels like we’ve been celebrating. It has been such a fun era to enjoy! We had a beautiful engagement party last July in a pasture in my grandparents backyard. It’s such a sentimental place to both Clayton and I, and it meant the world to celebrate our love there with family and friends.
The Outfit…
I had NO idea the proposal was happening that day. But I did think I was headed to a formal event with a brand, so I was thankfully all dressed up! I wore a beautiful yellow high neck, low back satin dress from Shopbop, and I am so glad he tricked me into wearing such a pretty dress for such a special day.
Wedding Plans So Far…
We are so excited for our big day, and we’ve been hard at work planning it. We love the idea of a European chateau wedding but we wanted it to be easy for our families to get to. So, we opted for a California wedding with a European feel to it!
