When it comes to wedding hair trends, the days of stiff updos and predictable curls are long gone. Instead, modern brides are opting for effortless waves, chic low buns, and ‘undone’ glamour that feels fresh, natural and – crucially – timeless. One of the UK’s most in-demand bridal hairstylists, Katie McGoldrick is the name on every stylish bride’s lips. With a client list spanning fashion-forward brides and celebrity red-carpet looks, she’s built a reputation for creating hair that feels as good as it looks.
Known for her signature ‘cool girl’ waves and refined, undone textures, Katie has mastered the art of elegant, wearable styles that last from aisle to afterparty. Whether it’s a glossy ponytail, a soft chignon, or a classic blowout with a contemporary edge, her work is all about enhancing each bride’s natural beauty.
So, what’s trending in bridal hair right now? From the rise of statement accessories to the return of polished, old-Hollywood glamour, we caught up with Katie to find out what’s hot, what’s not, and her ultimate advice for achieving wedding day hair perfection.
What are the biggest bridal hair trends you’re seeing right now?
In 2025, the biggest trend is the clean, soft middle-parted bouncy blow-dry. Brides are embracing a more natural, effortless look, with volume that feels both modern and sophisticated. It’s the perfect balance of chic and playful, ensuring hair looks lively yet polished.
Your signature style is all about ‘effortless’ hair – how can brides achieve that relaxed yet polished look?
The key is starting with natural, air-dried hair. Once that’s in place, I recommend applying a good heat protectant and using top-quality hair tools. The finishing touch is always a luxury hair serum to smooth the strands and add that final glossy polish. The goal is always to enhance, not mask, the hair’s natural beauty.
What’s your take on the return of Hollywood waves? Are they here to stay?
While the rigid, immovable Hollywood waves of the past are a thing of the past, we are seeing a resurgence of softer, more fluffy and bouncy waves. These modern ‘Hollywood’ waves are fluid, full of movement, and have a relaxed elegance – and yes, they’re here to stay for a while.
Hair accessories are having a moment – what’s the best way to incorporate them without looking overdone?
Hair accessories are now all about subtlety and refinement. A delicate embroidered veil or playful tassels can bring an element of fun to your bridal look without overwhelming it. Hair accessories aren’t quite as front and centre as they once were, but they’re still a perfect way to add a personal touch. For events like hen dos or the rehearsal dinner, a bow can bring a touch of whimsy and charm.
How should brides prep their hair in the weeks leading up to their wedding for the best results?
It’s never too early to start preparing your hair. A good conditioning treatment – something salon-worthy – is essential, as are hair supplements. A micro-trim every few weeks can keep your locks looking fresh and healthy, but I always advise against making any dramatic changes to your cut right before the big day.
Are there any bridal hair trends you’d advise against?
I would steer clear of overly complicated updos. These can often end up looking stiff or unnatural, which isn’t the look most brides want on their wedding day. I always recommend keeping things clean and simple for a more refined, timeless aesthetic.
What are your go-to products for keeping styles in place without looking too ‘done’?
There are five hero products I never style without, each one a staple for wedding ready hair that holds, shines and withstands the elements. First up is the Color Wow Dream Coat, a go to for frizz free, anti humidity styling, particularly brilliant for summer ceremonies and destination weddings. For long lasting curls with a smooth, polished finish, the L’Oréal Techni Art Pli prepping spray is my failsafe.
Hair by Sam McKnight’s Modern Hairspray offers lasting hold while doubling as a heat protectant, ideal for polished waves or structured styles. For a sleek bun or glossy ponytail, Color Wow Pop + Lock lends high shine and smooth control. And to add effortless lift and texture, a spritz of the cult favourite Oribe Dry Texturising Spray gives hair that just styled body while remaining touchable.
Any insider tips for ensuring your wedding hair looks great in photos?
For photos, shine is your best friend. A great shine spray that reflects light beautifully will make all the difference. Also, carry an Edge brush with you – a little secret weapon for taming stray hairs or smoothing any frizz that might show up in photos.
What’s your dream bridal look to create right now?
Right now, I’m loving soft, fully voluminous waves, they’re slightly undone and give that perfect breezy, bridal feel. It’s that ideal mix of romantic and chic.
Finally, what’s the one piece of advice you’d give every bride when it comes to their hair?
I would always recommend a bridal trial. Not only to create the perfect hairstyle that compliments your hair type and your dress style. But also to test the longevity and meet and connect with your hairstylist before your special day.
