The Most Memorable Aisles Of All Time

Few moments are as singular as those first steps down the aisle. From minimalist glass pavilions to timeworn stone chapels and rugged cliff sides, the aisle shapes the wedding mood, from ethereal to bohemian and intimate to grand.

We combed the archives for the most memorable set ups: one sunset ceremony unfolded on a pier transformed into a floating mandap, framed by chandeliers, trailing ivy and cascades of flowers; another reimagined a Marrakech olive grove with bougainvillaea-draped terracotta vessels and woven Berber rugs. Read on for a round-up of our favourite ever wedding aisle designs.

Fran & Pete

Fran and Pete chose the 16th century estate, Son Marroig, for their wedding, exchanging vows at a neoclassical pergola perched atop a Maltese cliffside. Discover more about their Mallorcan wedding here.

Megha & Valentin

Megha and Valentin chose a Portugese tropical estate, aptly named Swan Lake, for their epic multi-day celebration. Megha walked down the aisle under an immersive canopy of chandeliers and hanging green vines – read more about their multicultural wedding here.

Chloe & Chris

Sorrento’s Villa Astor features an aisle at the end of a cliff, set in the volcanic backdrop of the Bay of Naples. For Chloe and Chris’ wedding, they dotted the cobblestone aisle with roses and terracotta pots. Dive into their wedding here.

Charles & Matt

Charles and Matt got married on the steps of the walled garden in Ballintubbert Garden & House in Co Laois. Guests were positioned in the round, circling a central lily-pad pond. More on their Irish wedding here.

Honour & Charlie

Honour and Charlie got married at a lovely Hampshire church, decorating the altar with immersive, winding greenery and seasonal summer flowers. Quintessentially English wedding inspiration here.

Antonia & Georgie

Antonia and Georgie got married in a Hampshire wildflower meadow – Georgie’s family home – with hay bales on the horizon. More country wedding inspiration here.

Josie & Cameron

Josie and Cameron chose Mallorca for their wedding, and exchanged vows at the central archway of Son Togores Finca’s rustic courtyard. Discover more about their five-day celebrations here.

Haya & Sunny

This UNESCO-heritage Tuscan estate, La Foce, was the epic setting for Haya and Sunny’s wedding. The gardens were designed by Iris Origo and Cecil Pinsent, a naturally high-drama backdrop for the bridal party procession. Explore their Val d’Orcia wedding here.

Valeria & Artem

Under the shadow of an evergreen oak tree, Valeria and Artem exchanged vows in a simple garden of Villa-Aurelia, a 17th century baroque estate in Rome. Find out more about their wedding in the Eternal City here.

Rosana & Thibault

Rosana descended the grassy steps of the Grand Hotel Tritone’s terrace to marry Thibault, a ceremony set against an eternal Amalfi horizon. Details of their Dolce Vita wedding can be found here.

Lilly & John

Lilly and John went for ultimate bohemiana for their ceremony, decorating the walled olive grove of Casa Abracadabra with Berber rugs and terracotta urns. More inspiration from their Morrocan wedding here.
