Finding the perfect wedding dress is one of the most meaningful parts of planning a wedding, and for Ebony Atakorah, it was a journey filled with challenges, creativity, and ultimate triumph. Ebony and her husband, Tony Tagoe, tied the knot over two unforgettable days at Château des 3 Fontaines in Provence. Their wedding beautifully wove together their Ghanaian heritage with dreamy, classic romance, culminating in a celebration of love, culture, and elegance.
The Journey
“I feel like I tried on hundreds of dresses!” Ebony recalls of her search for ‘The One.’ Initially, she found the process disheartening due to the lack of size-inclusive options at high street bridal stores. While Pronovias impressed her with its range, many other appointments left her uninspired. “I made the decision to have a custom dress made in my homeland of Ghana, and there was only one bridal atelier for the job—Pistis Nuptials.” The bespoke gown they crafted for her white wedding was the perfect fit, both literally and symbolically.
The Vision
Ebony had a loose vision of what she wanted—something classic and dreamy. But as her journey unfolded, her creative instincts and collaborative process brought the final design to life.
The Decision
For someone who creative-directed and produced every detail of her wedding, choosing the dress proved to be the most challenging part. “It was super high pressure,” she admits. “It was the one area I had the least clarity on.” But ultimately, the process became a rewarding exercise in bringing her dream aesthetic to life.
Style Support
Ebony enlisted the help of her close friend and stylist, Debbs Bjuku, for her initial appointments. “She pushed me to step out of my ‘safe’ comfort zone,” Ebony shares. Debbs’ guidance and expertise proved invaluable in finding the dress that truly represented Ebony’s vision.
The Evening Look
For the evening, Ebony transformed into a glittering vision in a custom hand-beaded gold dress by Nigerian designer Matopedia. “Every part of my wedding had a different ‘scene’ and aesthetic,” she explains. This show-stopping look was perfect for the post-reception celebrations.
The Accessories
From her #gifted Louboutin Loubigirl shoes to a custom two-tier cathedral veil by Pistis Nuptials, every detail of Ebony’s ensemble was carefully considered. She completed the look with a pair of Alessandra Rich embellished shell clip-on earrings, adding a touch of statement glamour.
The Second Outfit
While Ebony didn’t opt for a second-day dress, her wedding wardrobe across the two days was a perfect balance of traditional and modern elegance, reflecting her unique style and heritage.
Advice For Brides
“Go for it!” Ebony advises future brides. “Make sure you get what you want. Do not be afraid to ask. This day is yours and your partner’s—no one else’s.” Her key takeaway? Shut out the noise and enjoy every moment.
Favourite Photo Of The Dress
Choosing a favourite photo wasn’t easy, given that Ebony had three different photographers capturing the day. But one image stood out: a timeless shot of her standing in the doorway of the château, with the train of her gown removed. “I felt really beautiful and timeless at that moment, which was exactly my vision for the dress,” she shares. The photo, captured by Bedge Pictures, perfectly encapsulated the elegance and romance of the day.
