When professional makeup artist and The Wedding Edition Beauty Editor Yasmin Salmon decided to start planning her wedding lipstick look, she wanted something out of the ordinary. Luckily, with years of experience both as a model and now MUA, Yasmin has an incredible knowledge of makeup brands and trends – and so it was easy to turn to one of her most trusted brands, Code8. Here, Yasmin tells us about her girly day out with her mum – and how they not only chose their perfect pout shades but co-created them as part of Code8’s bespoke offering.
Tell us about your wedding plans so far…
I’m still looking into dates at the moment, but I know it will be within the next two years. My fiancé and I share a deep passion for music, which was a significant part of what initially drew us to each other. We especially like the vibrant energy of 70s disco, so we’re excited to incorporate some fun 70s disco vibes into our celebration!
Why did you want to visit Code8 for your bridal lipstick moment?
Having worked with Code8 over the years, as a professional MUA, I’ve developed a strong appreciation for the brand; they truly deliver quality products I can rely on. Plus, my mother has also used Code8 in the past, and she loves their offerings! As I wanted to share a fun, girly experience with her to kick off the wedding planning – and discuss ideas for the big day – visiting a store that we both trusted was ideal.
What was your first impression of the Code8 store and the team?
Upon arriving at the Code8 store, we were warmly greeted by J Lo, one of the talented makeup artists there. He welcomed us with a refreshing glass of prosecco – perfect for starting our girly day out – and then guided us through the exciting process of creating our very own bespoke lipsticks. Even though the day was primarily focused on me, it was incredibly special to have my mum with me. She’s such an important part of my life and my wedding, and I wanted her to feel cherished, too.
Tell us more about the lipstick consultation
During our consultation, we told our makeup consultant, J Lo, that we were each looking for the perfect lip shade for my wedding. My mum opted for a slightly deeper pink tone, while I sought something more natural – something akin to my own lip colour but with a touch of elevation. J Lo mixed up several delightful shades for us, and after testing some really beautiful colours, we both eventually found the perfect match!
What shade did you end up choosing for your big day – and why?
I had a clear vision of the shade I wanted: a subtle enhancement of my natural lip colour. I wanted it to bring a bit more vibrancy, while still appearing natural. I’m particularly keen on a lipstick that looks great matte, but also pairs nicely with a gloss on top. When I finally discovered ‘the one,’ it felt incredible! It embodied a natural look while representing the best version of myself – exactly how I want to appear on my wedding day.
Your mum also had her own moment – what was that like for both of you?
My mum chose a lovely warmer pink shade that beautifully complemented her skin tone, making her glow radiate. I could see her eyes light up as we found the perfect colour, and it was heartwarming to witness her transformation. Sharing this experience with her created a beautiful memory leading up to my wedding day, which I will always cherish.
How did the experience make you feel in the lead-up to your wedding?
The entire experience was nothing short of delightful. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun activity before their wedding. I would love to return with my bridesmaids in the future to create lipsticks for them as well!
What advice would you give other brides considering their beauty look – especially their lipstick? Any tips for choosing a meaningful shade?
I encourage brides to experiment with different makeup looks, perhaps even trying something unconventional! The team at Code8 are true professionals, and I trust their expertise wholeheartedly.
