Hi my beauties and welcome to my first article for The Wedding Edition! I couldn’t be more excited to be joining TWE as drinks editor. As a huge fan of all things weddings and an even bigger fan of a killer cocktail or two, I’m really looking forward to embarking on this journey with you all as we discover different flavours each season.
Whether it’s an evening with your love whilst deciding on the perfect colour palette for the flowers or a wedding-dress debrief with the bridal party, I’ll have you covered and share tips and tricks with how to make mouth watering cocktails for each course, leaving those tasting them wanting more. With a deep-rooted fashion background, I have a very close eye on attention to detail so of course this is something I like to translate in my creations, making them unforgettable showstoppers for your big day.
Happy planning and don’t forget to drink up (see what I did there!) every second as the planning flies by in a flash. Here are my favourite cocktails for each course..
STARTER
Of course I was going to suggest my favourite aperitif to sip on before we sit down for the wedding breakfast. The obvious and more popular go to would be bubbles, so why not shake up your guests’ taste buds with my Chocolate Orange & Almond Negroni. Such an elegant way to start the celebrations, just make sure you grab some heavenly snacks to have on the side. Negronis work wonderfully with salty nibbles and the ingredients are great for getting those tums ready for food. If you’re planning a banquette for your wedding breakfast it’s a winner.
MAIN
So my go-to cocktail to work as a dynamic duo with a meal would have to be the infamous Aperol Spritz, wonderful when it’s Spring/Summer and we can feel the warmth on our skin. ‘But we’re getting married in the Autumn, Portiaaaaa!!!’ I hear you say, so why don’t we have some fun and switch up the ingredients to make my Autumnal Spritz. Swap the prosecco for a good quality cider (my fave, Cidre Breton), along with a splash of St Germain for sweetness, apple wheels instead of orange, a little cinnamon stick for aroma… Bish bash bosh, hello Fall!
DESERT
Now let’s get straight to the point here, we’ve had our wedding breakfast and we’re after something fun, something tasty and something to get the party STARTED!! Move aside Espresso Martini, there’s a new kid on the block. Welcome my Guinness & Sour Cherry Margarita… I know, I know, it sounds like an odd pairing but just trust me on this one. With cinnamon, chilli salt and sugar along the side of the glass, this tumbler is full of unexpected delight, that will have everyone wanting more whilst refusing to leave the dance floor.
