In our Mini Mini Interview series, we sit down with inspiring founders in the children’s space to talk about the journey behind their brands, their experiences as parents, and what keeps them motivated. This week, we chat with Jenna Tyrwhitt-Drake, the creative mind behind Posie and Penn. Known for its beautifully upholstered children’s beds, Posie and Penn was born out of a love for interiors and a frustration with the lack of affordable, design-led options for family homes. We caught up with Jenna to hear about her journey so far, her proudest moments and the everyday juggle of running a growing brand while raising a young family.

Tell us about the inspiration behind Posie and Penn?
Sean Symington came to design our home in Hampshire, which we bought in 2023. It was and is our dream home and needed lots of updates. Sean and I decided there was nothing on the market in terms of an affordable upholstered bed, such a gap in the market.
How has becoming a parent influenced your approach to business?
Being a parent makes me want to work harder than ever before. My children inspire me every single day and remind me exactly why I started this.
What do you think sets Posie and Penn apart from the rest?

We are affordable, and there isn’t an off-the-shelf upholstered next-day delivery bed anywhere. We are also trying to get to a point where we can gift a bed for every bed sold. There are currently 700,000 children without beds in the UK alone, and being able to give back in this way is something that really drives us.
How do you manage the balance between work and family life?
I think as mothers, we never quite get this balance completely right. There is always a bit of guilt somewhere, but I make sure I’m at the school gates at least once a day for drop-off or pick-up, and I always carve out proper time during the school holidays to step back from work. The juggle is real, but I know I’ll never have this time with them again, so I remind myself that work can wait sometimes.
What is your proudest moment since launching Posie and Penn?
Our collaboration with Sean Symington. He is the king of interiors, and to work together on something that began as a shared idea feels incredibly special.
What trends do you see emerging in the children’s market?

More affordable furniture is needed all around for children’s bedrooms. Parents want spaces that feel as thoughtfully designed as the rest of their homes, and I think that shift will only continue to grow.
Do you have a favourite product or collection that you’ve launched with Posie and Penn?
I love our Lochlan Wavy Bed, it’s so perfect. It captures everything we stand for: playful, comfortable and timeless.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received on your journey?

If you are thinking of starting something, do it. Do not wait. Believe in yourself and trust your instincts.
Finally, how do you unwind after a busy day of running a business and being a parent?

Crisps and dip, a good series with my husband and dogs. Simple pleasures that help me reset and feel grateful for the chaos of it all.
