Today, we chat with Hannah Coffin, the visionary behind Needle & Thread, to discuss everything from childhood inspirations to her top tips for balancing work and family life. This conversation comes at an exciting time, as the brand has just launched its first-ever Babywear collection for Spring-Summer 2025. Expanding on its much-loved Kids collection, the new Baby range brings the same exquisite craftsmanship and feminine detailing to pieces designed especially for little ones. From delicate florals to intricate lace, these heirloom-worthy designs are perfect for special occasions and treasured moments.
What inspired the new Needle & Thread’s Baby and Kids collections?
I founded Needle & Thread in 2013 with the aim of making all women feel beautiful. Our unapologetically feminine and timeless designs have garnered a loyal following over the years, leading us to expand into Bridal and Kidswear. We have just launched our first-ever Babywear collection for Spring-Summer 2025 as a natural extension of our Kids collection. This means we can now dress the whole family in Needle & Thread, from three-month-old babies to 12-year-old girls and, of course, women—perfect for matching mummy & me moments. There is nothing that makes me happier than seeing our customers wearing our designs for life’s special moments, from weddings and christenings to birthdays and family celebrations.
How has becoming a parent influenced your approach to business?
Being a parent myself and having parents in our team has been incredibly helpful when it comes to fit and practical details for our Baby and Kids ranges. I love seeing the designs on my team and friends’ children, although I have two sons, and we don’t make boys’ clothing yet!
What do you think sets Needle & Thread apart from the rest?
Although our designs continue to evolve and each collection is unique, our feminine, timeless, and vintage-inspired style DNA has remained a constant. Our customers return to us time and again because they can rely on our designs to make them feel their very best. Size inclusivity and sustainability have been at the heart of the brand since the beginning. We now offer designs in sizes UK4-24, and 90% of our current collection is made from sustainable materials, including 100% recycled sequins.
What is your proudest moment since launching Needle & Thread?
Seeing our designs worn by stylish and inspiring women is always a highlight. The Princess of Wales has worn our pieces on several occasions, which is a huge honour. We have also partnered with charity organisations close to my heart, including Women for Women, Save the Children, and Smart Works. I particularly love seeing brides across the world choosing Needle & Thread for their special day.
What trends do you see emerging in the children’s market?
We often see Ready-to-Wear fashion trends filtering into the childrenswear market—from tonal neutrals like mocha, buttermilk, and gold to romantic lace and ruffle details this season. However, our primary aim is to create timeless designs that will become cherished heirlooms for years to come, so our approach is not always trend-led.
Favourite product or collection that you’ve launched with Needle & Thread?
Over recent collections, we have expanded our Partywear range with more fitted, body-skimming styles that are both flattering and comfortable, thanks to power-mesh linings. I went to the ballet at Christmas with some friends of the brand and wore our Amora dress in vintage gold—one of our new partywear silhouettes—which received so many compliments. That’s definitely a new favourite!
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received in your entrepreneurial journey?
An early mentor advised me to reframe challenges as opportunities for growth and to always surround myself with a team who share my values and vision. I also try to remind myself to take time out to celebrate the wins.
Finally, how do you unwind after a busy day of running a business and being a parent?
I recently moved to the Cotswolds, so I love spending time outdoors with my family. I also practise yoga and reformer pilates every week and enjoy hot and cold-water therapy—it really helps me recharge.
