The Lanesborough showcases some of the finest Georgian architecture. The Grade 1 star listed building dates back to 1719 as the former country home of Viscount Lanesborough, well before the thoroughfares of Mayfair and Belgravia arrived. With the same design connections as the National Gallery and University College Cambridge – it’s a truly iconic place to say “I do”.
Set the scene
The Lanesborough is a masterpiece among London’s five-star hotels. Grand in its Regency architecture and style, it is nonetheless intimate in scale thanks to the deeply personal ethos of its service. With its residential style entrance and imposing fireplace, and series of interconnecting ground floor reception rooms, it feels like a townhouse of the grandest scale (there’s even a resident cat, Lilibet!) paired with the most luxurious and sophisticated service and amenities. It is also home to an award-winning restaurant (available for exclusive hire) and one-of-a-kind spa.
Ultimately however, the unique charm of The Lanesborough lies in its Regency flair and the warm promise of being well cared for. It is a hotel where staff remember guests’ every whim, where a fire roars in winter, where warm Regency colours glow in every room, and where visitors can enjoy a truly authentic taste of original London high life.
Event spaces
Fully licensed to hold civil marriage and civil partnership ceremonies for up to 120 guests, the hotel offers a choice of gorgeous private rooms, available individually or in combination, from the intimate St George’s Room with views of Constitution Arch, to the palatial, Murano mirror-lined Belgravia Room, whose windows cast their regal gaze across Hyde Park.
Antoinette Lettieri, Head of Events & Event Partnerships, is extraordinarily adept in the art of weddings. On hand from the moment preparations start to offer expert guidance and organisation on floral displays, photography, decoration, menus, music, spa treatments, wedding night accommodation, chauffeured car services and every other all-important little details.
Food and drink
Famed for its Coronation Crab Salad and Beef Wellington, the hotel’s carefully crafted menus by Executive Chef, Shay Cooper, take the very best ingredients from across the British Isles to create a bespoke wedding menu on the day. Menu highlight include the world famous Beef Wellington – honouring the vista of Wellington Arch on the doorstep.
Michael Perron, Head of Bars at The Lanesborough, can create a unique cocktail in the ‘members club’ atmosphere of The Library Bar – famed for its popping candy Negroni, vesper martini, and gin-based cocktails made from the famous Lanesborough Gin. Or take to the hidden garden of Belgravia – The Garden Room, with its heated cigar terrace. Finally, The Withdrawing Room is a popular local spot for both Belgravia residents and hotel guests to relax in.
Accommodation
The dream day must have the dream ending, which can be found in one of The Lanesborough’s 93 rooms and beautifully designed suites. Couples can luxuriate in the grandeur and luxury of Regency-style rooms and call on the services of their personal butler who will be on hand to assist with unpacking and any other requests throughout their stay. The Lanesborough is the only hotel in London to offer round-the-clock, dedicated butler service. A chilled bottle of Champagne awaits the couple in their suite on arrival, with the hotel’s compliments. The following morning, couples can enjoy a leisurely English breakfast, while their butler re-packs the bags in preparation for the honeymoon trip. A truly blissful start to married life.
Spa
The Lanesborough Club & Spa is one of London’s most exclusive private members’ fitness and health clubs, offering hotel guests and club members access to internationally recognised experts in the fields of mindfulness, fitness, beauty and wellness. Spanning an incredible 18,000ft² (1,672m²) and truly spectacular in design, The Club & Spa comprises four single treatment rooms, as well as a double treatment room which boasts a double shower and Rasul – an Arabian-inspired thermal cleansing ritual – a restaurant serving light, fresh cuisine, and multiple relaxation lounges.
The story
James Lane, second and last Viscount Lanesborough, built Lanesborough House in 1719. By 1825, the house was in a poor state. At this time, respected architect William Wilkins, best known for his designs of famous buildings such as the National Gallery, was commissioned to redesign the building. Wilkins employed classical Greek revival styles which were hallmarks of the Regency period. In 1859 the fourth floor was added. Some of Wilkins’ most important original architectural elements are still intact, including the entrance foyer, the first-floor gallery, the main corridors, and graceful stairways.
