Inside: A Beautifully Unpredictable Wedding In Ibiza
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

From a chance meeting on a charity cycle through Ibiza to a windswept New Year’s Eve proposal on the Cornish coast, step inside Lauren and Tom’s unforgettable wedding in Ibiza.

The story so far

Tom and I met in May 2018 on the Last Night A DJ Saved My Life charity cycle challenge in Ibiza. We both lived in Clapham and worked in Shoreditch and we soon realised how much we had in common. I remember the first time Tom spoke to me cycling up the hill to Es Cubells. Two years before I had been told by my reiki healer Emma Lucy Knowles that she had a clear vision that I would meet a man younger than me cycling up a hill, surrounded by olive trees, so it magically felt like it was written in the stars!

Tom proposed on NYE 2024 in Cornwall at Mother Ivey’s Bay near Padstow. It was a stormy day and amidst the wind and rain, we had a break in the weather to make our way down to the beach with our dog and daughter before Tom got down on one knee to propose. He arranged for our four friends to be waiting at The Pig Hotel with champagne and balloons before a surprise lunch. It was perfect.

Tom had worked with Dubai & Burlington Arcade-based jeweller Cara to design and make my dream ring. A diamond edged cushion cut diamond with diamond band. I’ll admit he had been given some tips!

Venue

We both knew we wanted to get married in Ibiza. It had always been a special place for us and now meeting there on the cycle, we knew that we had to go back there to get married. We looked at three venues before choosing Las Cicadas in Santa Gertrudis. We loved the  500 year old farmhouse and courtyard surrounded by rustic gardens. It was the perfect space that felt like old ibiza that could be dressed with modern touches.

We also really clicked with the team, Tavis, Elena and the planner Laurie from Cloud 9. They made everything feel possible and nothing was too much trouble. They felt like old friends within weeks.

We decided on the 11th October, 2025, as October was a calm end to the hot, busy summer months. The roads were quiet again, the water still warm and the weather still hot in the day and less humid in the evenings.

We wanted everyone we loved to see our island through our eyes, the old and the new, so we arranged a five day fiesta starting with a welcome dinner at Experimental Beach, followed by the first dance at Music On at Pacha, a recovery beach lunch at Cala Bassa Beach Club, the rehearsal dinner for the wedding party at Juntos House and then the day after the wedding, the pool party, a night at Pikes and the last dance on the Monday at the DC10 Circo Loco closing party.

It was a year of coordinating guest lists, transport, specially curated menus and our guests’ arrival times with the SayIDo wedding website and WhatsApp group!

We had absolutely no idea that a red level storm was to hit the island. We arrived on the Tuesday. It was cooler than usual after a storm had hit the weekend before causing a lot of damage to the island. Surely the storm couldn’t come back. By Wednesday, the perfect weather forecast had fully changed, rain every day of the weekend.  We spent all of Wednesday sitting in bright sunshine rearranging our wedding flowers, so they could be moved around the venue, moving our pool-side drinks reception inside, paying for a huge peaked tent to be stretched across our beautiful court yard. In fact, we ordered two tents just to ensure we could keep all of our guests dry!

The storm hit on the Thursday. Experimental Beach turned the boutique into a restaurant, which we had exclusively. The sun came up the next day as we awoke after a night at Pacha, so we enjoyed our beach lunch in the sun, before the storm hit again on the Friday night.

As if by magic on our wedding morning, we woke up to beautiful bright, warm sunshine. The groom’s party were in the pool and we were drinking champagne on the balcony. We felt so lucky!

I walked down the aisle into the beautiful garden setting which was my dream moment. I couldn’t take my eyes off Tom the entire time.

As we said our vows and the readings were being read, a few spots of rain fell and stopped and as we walked back down the aisle to cheers and excitement, the sky went black and heavens opened and the storm hit hard.

We enjoyed our drinks reception under the tents with the lights and disco balls above us, as the thunder cracked and the rain pelted down.  The energy and love amongst our guests was electric as we ran in for the wedding dinner. I’ve never felt love like it. The rain water was flowing under the dining tables and the tent at one point was shaking in the eye of the storm.

The speeches bellowed over the sound of the rain and by the first dance, the storm had passed and the party began. I don’t think anyone will forget it and our guests and team never stopped smiling, even our photographer and planner who were soaked to the skin, kept the energy and love up throughout the day.

Fashion

I trawled Instagram for wedding gowns, looking for gowns that fitted the rustic style of the wedding venue and the Ibiza party we were planning.

I made an appointment with Galia Lahav and then found a small boutique Nicole Mae Bridal in Goring, Oxfordshire, which had six gowns I had found on Instagram that I wanted to try on.

My mum, maid of honour and I planned a day’s road trip, going to bridal boutiques all around Oxfordshire (not sure how they all ended up being there!) ending with dinner at Soho Farmhouse. To my surprise I quickly found two dresses I loved, one by Calla

Blanche and one by Ricca Sposa. I cancelled the Galia Lahav and drove back to Nicole’s boutique on my birthday to do the final selection.

On my arrival Nicole pulled out one more dress, another Calla Blanche and that was the one. As soon as I put it on, I knew it was the dress.  It was a light tulle with a glitter fleck through the under tulle layer and a floral appliqué and almost sheer corseted top.  We redesigned a Ricca Sposa full length floral appliqué edged veil and with just one fitting it all perfect.

I chose a Bronx and Banco floral appliqué short dress for the evening party, which complimented my wedding gown perfectly.

I wore towering white satin platform Aquazurra sandals for the ceremony and Gianvito Rossi silver sandals for the party.

Jewellery

I kept my jewellery simple with some vintage pearl drop earrings and my grandmother’s diamond bracelet.

Bridal party

The three best men and ushers wore bespoke suits by Lawrence & Winslade, designed by Tom’s brother, Jack.

The bridesmaids wore cream satin one shoulder gowns from Pretty Lavish and our 3 year daughter wore a bespoke white satin dress with a train by Lawrence & Winslade.

Transportation

We were staying at the venue with 10 of the bridesmaids and best men, so we didn’t have far to travel on the day.

We worked with Emily at Tribe Ibiza to organise our VIP bus transport to our pre and post events, to make it easy getting around the island.

Tablescape

I trawled Instagram to get inspiration for the tablescape and wedding decorations, looking at all of the weddings that had been at the venue. I put hours into planning the table formation and how the day would flow from the cocktails, into dinner and into the dancing.

We had long tables in a C shape around the fountain in the courtyard, dressed with baby’s breath and white orchids down the centre of the table and cut crystal glasses. I found the raffia place mats and beige linen napkins on Ali Express. Tall glass hurricane candle holders were nestled amongst the flowers along the table.

Our friend Darren Lay designed our menus, welcome signage, table plan and bar menus, which were placed surrounded by disco balls and more baby’s breath and white orchids. Our table names were inspired by places in Ibiza, which held special memories for us, such a Benimussa, our favourite cycle route and Santa Gertrudis, the location of our wedding.

Food & drinks

For our menu we wanted to create a traditional ibiza tapas style menu with our favourites – freshly sliced jamon and pan con tomate, croquettes, chorizo, sea bass, olives and of course, bread and aioli specially created with a lighter hint of garlic! Dessert was a L&T branded expresso martini to get the party started.  We worked with La Grande Bouffe, who are the best of the best in Ibiza. Hannah and the team are so creative, so much fun to work with and nothing is too much trouble. We had our tasting a few months before and we walked out with the remainder of all of the wines we tried!

Our three tiered cake was designed by Sharon at Cupcake Ibiza and was vanilla sponge with raspberry jam and buttercream filling. It was so delicious that we took it to formentera and ate it for dessert after our wedding.

We chose a selection of local wines and champagne for the speeches with margaritas flowing all night!

The following day at the pool party, we served a hangover paella with fried chicken and chorizo, refuelled with a margarita bar (again!).

Entertainment

We walked down the aisle to Full of Life by Christine & the Queens and back down the aisle to somewhere over the rainbow.

We curated a playlist of music as intro moments for each of the special elements of the day. We walked into dinner in the pouring rain to I Want Your Soul by Armand Van Helden, a track that always reminds me of Tom. Then a track to fit each person before their speech with mine being Addicted To You by Avicci and Tom’s being Too Cool to be Careless by Pawsa. My best man Jonathan had Sexy Chick by David Guetta and the three best men, Tom, Truman and Jack lowered the tone with Who Let the Dogs Out.

Our first dance song was Perfect by Ed Sheeran, which we both loved and the words felt really fitting to our love story.

The dancing kicked off with Harry Sullivan playing old Ibiza classics starting with when the sun goes down by Robin Shulz – quite ironic with the rain.

The music moved into ibiza disco classics, into our favourite tech house classics with Harry playing back to back with Tobias Lineker until 4am.

The next day at the pool party, Harry Sullivan, Tobias Lineker, Tom Curran and Tom Winslade all played back to to back throughout the afternoon, as the sun went down, before heading to Pikes.

Beauty regime & wellness

In the run up to the wedding, I had regular City Cleanse facials at Skinwork, lymphatic drainage massage treatments with Elayne at Ela Sculpt, Botox with Dr Wassim Taktouk and tape hair extensions with Louise Bailey at Beauty Club London to keep the curl in my hair. I also had my eye brows tattooed with Natasha at Tracy Giles.  I used my Dr Dennis Gross mask every night in the run up to the wedding and it really made my skin glow.  For my wedding day I wore Liliphea by Diptyque.

ibiza make up artist Ana Perez did my hair and make-up on the day. We did a trial in May and then again for my hen party back in Ibiza. Ana bought a team with her to manage the hair and make-up for my bridesmaids and mum. My daughter loved having her hair curled and a dusting of make up for the day!

I kept my make-up simple with a natural glossy look as if I had come off the beach after sundowners. We used MERIT, kulfi and Tarte. My hair was lightly curled and half pinned up to hold my veil.

Favourite Wedding Gifts

We had asked so much of our friends and family with our wedding being in Ibiza, we said we didn’t want gifts but people were still incredibly generous. We were given some lovely Ibiza artworks and the Assouline ibiza candle and friends generously gave us money towards our honeymoon.

Honeymoon

When the wedding was over, we spent a few days on Formentera at Dunas de Formentera, ironically in beautiful sunshine!

We had our real honeymoon in the new year. Sadly due to the Middle East war, our honeymoon to the Seychelles was cancelled due to the Doha stop so we rebooked to go to Mauritius to stay at the Shangrila Le Touessrok. Hopefully we will get to go to the Seychelles next year!

Advice

Always make a plan B for the weather and it doesn’t matter when or where you get married, you never know what the weather could do. But at the end of the day all that matters is you are marrying the one you love, surrounded by everyone you love.

Having the pre and post events ensured everyone got to know each other, which brought everyone together on the day and really heightened the atmosphere.

Using a wedding website like SayIDo and the WhatsApp group kept everyone updated on the plans and saved on costly paper invites.
