Honeymoon Review: St Regis Le Morne, Mauritius
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Why go?

A refined Indian Ocean retreat set beneath the dramatic silhouette of Le Morne Brabant, balancing classic St Regis polish with a relaxed, outdoors-led rhythm that suits honeymooners who want space, scenery and a gentle sense of occasion.

Honeymoon style

Well-travelled couples who appreciate ritual, strong dining and time spent on the water. Ideal for honeymooners who want calm without isolation and activities without schedules dictating the day.

Set the scene

Arriving at The St Regis Le Morne, the first thing that registers is scale – not in a showy way, but in how generously the resort is laid out. Low-rise buildings are spaced widely across manicured lawns, leading down to a long sweep of pale sand, with Le Morne Brabant rising sharply in the background. Despite the number of rooms, the resort never feels busy; communal spaces are calm, beach loungers are plentifully spaced and the atmosphere remains blissfully unhurried.

The architecture leans toward colonial with a Mauritian accent – soft neutrals, shuttered facades and wide verandas that encourage lingering. Guests drift between pool, beach and bar rather than congregating in any one area, giving the resort a natural ebb and flow. Time on the water is a highlight: complimentary waterskiing with watersports instructor Sylvester, who knows the lagoon intimately, delivers an exhilarating contrast to slower beach days. As evening draws in, lanterns flicker on, the bar fills up gradually and the horizon becomes the focal point.

Rooms

Suites are expansive, designed to feel residential rather than hotel-like. Beds are generously sized and deeply comfortable, positioned to frame either garden or ocean views, while terraces become an extension of the living space. Bathrooms favour soaking tubs, twin vanities and walk-in rainfall showers – practical but thoughtfully finished.

For honeymooners, an Ocean Junior Suite or one of the beachfront categories offers the most privacy and sense of connection to the landscape, particularly for those who plan to spend mornings barefoot on the terrace watching the lagoon shift colour.

Food and drink

Dining at St Regis Le Morne unfolds at a measured pace, with enough variety to keep longer stays interesting. Le Manoir sets the tone with elegant, unfussy cooking in a refined dining room – the kind of place that suits both a relaxed first-night dinner after travel and a more dressed-up return later in the week.

Atsuko is the standout for theatre and flavour. Here, the teppanyaki counter creates an intimate setting where timing matters; wagyu beef cooked with precision and grilled prawns arriving still sizzling were highlights, with the interaction between chef and guests adding warmth without tipping into performance.

Floating Market brings a shift in mood. Open-sided and relaxed, it suits a slower evening, with Vietnamese rolls proving memorable – fresh, well-balanced and ideal for sharing. INDYA, meanwhile, offers richer and more spice-driven fare. The beef short ribs stood out as a plate worth planning an evening around.

At the bar, pisco sours became a regular order, best enjoyed as the light fades and the beach quietens.

The story

St Regis Le Morne sits on one of the most storied stretches of coastline in Mauritius, directly in front of the UNESCO-listed Le Morne Brabant. The resort draws on the island’s layered history rather than attempting to rewrite it, interlacing colonial-era design cues with contemporary comfort.

Daily rituals are woven into the stay without feeling obligatory. The Bloody Mary ritual, hosted by mixologist Matai, struck the right note – informative, personable and relaxed, with a depth of knowledge that elevated the occasion. Sabrage at sunset on the beach provided a light-hearted focal point, with guests gathering briefly to watch the traditional opening of a Champagne bottle using a sword – a nod to St Regis heritage – before dispersing again into the evening as the light softened over the lagoon.

Family-friendly

While the resort works well for couples, it also accommodates families comfortably. The breadth of space allows different guest types to coexist without compromise, and the beach’s gentle gradient suits younger swimmers.

Children are well catered for via the Kite Flyers Club, which offers structured activities in a dedicated space, allowing parents to fully switch off knowing youngsters are happily occupied for part of the day.

Spa

The Spa is positioned on the first floor of one of the resort’s colonial-style buildings, with elevated views across the gardens and out towards the lagoon. The setting feels calm without being removed, allowing guests to slip easily between beach, pool and treatment room. The couples’ massage was thoughtfully paced, and delivered by skilled therapists with a focus on restoration over indulgence. Light-filled treatment rooms and the gentle movement of the resort below reinforce the sense of slowing down, even while remaining connected to the rhythm of the day.

Eco-friendly

The resort’s approach to sustainability is subtle rather than overt. Landscaping respects the natural contours of the land, and the low-rise design preserves sightlines towards Le Morne. Guests are encouraged to engage with the lush surrounding environment, tempting though it is to remain enclosed within the resort.

Location

Set on the quieter southwestern coast of Mauritius, the area feels removed without being remote, and is especially appealing to guests who value natural scenery and outdoor pursuits. For kitesurfers, the location is particularly strong: a 15-minute walk down the beach leads to ION Club, where lessons and equipment can be arranged easily. The airport is reachable by road within a manageable 90-minute transfer, making arrival and departure straightforward.

Rates start from £560 for a Junior Suite on a bed and breakfast basis.
