Honeymoon Review: Nobu Hotel Portman Square

Honeymoon Review: Nobu Hotel Portman Square

Why go?

A sleek city hideaway where contemporary Japanese minimalism meets Mayfair glamour. Ideal for couples seeking a refined escape in London without leaving the buzz of the capital behind.

Honeymoon style

Perfect for newlyweds looking for a one-night, post-wedding hideaway, or for couples planning a stylish mini-moon where fine dining and indulgence replace long-haul flights.

Set the scene

From the moment guests enter the lobby, Nobu Portman Square delivers on atmosphere: grand ceilings, contemporary art and a subtle palette of stone and wood that creates an immediate sense of calm. The crowd is effortlessly cosmopolitan – a blend of trendy locals, international business travellers and couples marking a special occasion. Instead of ornate chandeliers or heavy drapery, design here is clean-lined and quietly confident, with sculptural lighting and curated objects that nod to Japanese craftsmanship. Tucked away in Marylebone, it feels central yet residential; the kind of place where couples can slip into anonymity after the intensity of a wedding celebration.

Rooms

We stayed in a Junior Suite, designed with the understated elegance Nobu is known for. The palette of pale woods and cream textiles gave the space a cocooning quality, punctuated by minimalist, black details. A king-sized bed framed by sculptural lighting sets the tone for slow mornings. And the individual marble bathrooms are a key feature of the suite – sleek yet comfortable – they’re perfect for having alone time when getting ready, allowing you to make your “big reveal” before heading out for dinner. For honeymooners, the one-bedroom suite is the room to book, offering separate living space to toast to the start of married life, Champagne in hand.

Food and drink

Dinner is the main event at Nobu Portman Square. The Omakase menu – a chef’s choice tasting journey, is the ultimate way to experience Nobu cuisine at its best. Think delicate yellowtail sashimi with jalapeño, with their signature black cod miso, and a wagyu beef and enoki mushroom dish that arrives at the table sizzling. Each plate is carefully paced, a rhythm that turns dinner into a theatre of anticipation. For couples, request a corner banquette in the main restaurant – low lighting and the buzz of the room make it one of the most seductive dining settings in Marylebone. Cocktails lean towards the inventive: the “Santa Teresa 1976” Old Cuban is perfectly balanced, but the White Sake Negroni feels particularly celebratory.

The Story

Founded by globally renowned chef Nobu Matsuhisa with partners Robert De Niro and film producer Meir Teper, Nobu’s restaurants have long been synonymous with jet-set dining. The hotel arm of the brand brings that same polished aesthetic into an overnight setting. Portman Square is Nobu’s London flagship, combining hospitality, wellness and gastronomy under one roof – and the perfect base if you’re visiting the capital.

Family-friendly

While Nobu draws a stylish adult crowd, it welcomes families with ease – children’s menus are thoughtfully designed, and interconnecting rooms allow for proximity with privacy. The location also puts Hyde Park within walking distance, making it practical for families seeking green space.

Spa

While the hotel doesn’t have a pool, it more than makes up for it with exceptional wellness facilities. Guests can book treatments either in-room or within the serene wellness centre – the Deep Tissue massage is particularly noteworthy, a true remedy for post–wedding-week stress. The real highlight, however, is Nobu Pilates, the brand’s first and only dedicated studio in the world. A full Classical Pilates space led by founder Marsha Lindsay, offers three signature classes POWER, PRECISION and PURE, designed to strengthen, lengthen and restore. Alongside a state-of-the-art gym, it’s a setting where balance feels instinctive rather than earned.

Eco-friendly

Nobu Portman Square takes a considered approach to sustainability, reducing single-use plastics and focusing on locally sourced produce where possible. Its urban setting naturally encourages guests to explore London on foot.

Location

Set in Marylebone, the hotel strikes the sweet spot between Mayfair’s polish and the village-like charm of Marylebone High Street. Bond Street’s boutiques are minutes away, as is Hyde Park for a morning walk. Heathrow is under an hour by car or train, making it convenient for couples jetting off on a longer honeymoon.

Prices from £450 per night

Junior Suites start from £785 per night
