Carmen Borgonovo and Joana de Noronha are fashion industry veterans who are putting their experience to good use with dresses that have the feel-good factor we need right now. The duo founded Borgo de Nor, a London-based fashion brand that primarily offers long, flowing dresses in vibrant floral prints. Here are Borgo de Nor Co-Founders Carmen & Joana’s 9 Questions with….
We love working in the fashion industry because….
We love the creativity, the fast pace, the incredible people we meet, and the constantly evolving ideas within the industry that inspire us everyday.
Borgo de Nor is best known for…
For its bold joyful prints and ultra flattering silhouettes that empower your soul when you wear them.
Our biggest achievement to date is…
Every season seems like an achievement. The emotions and hard work we put into every collection is beautifully intense and it’s an incredible achievement for us when we see our Borgo Girls wearing, loving and creating memorable moments with our dresses.
We name our dresses after different women because…
When we launched the brand we were specifically inspired by a myriad of women from poets to artists, friends, mothers, grandmothers to sisters. Each one fiercely passionate. Whether they were breaking rules to pave the way for other women after them or living their true lives with passion and being truthful to themselves, they were and continue to be an inspiration to us. Each dress always has a story and feeling and the name usually means something to us on a personal level.
The current wedding trends we’re loving are…
We love that there are no set rules any more when it comes to weddings. Brides are now following their own desires which resonates perfectly with our brand ethos. And of course we absolutely adore it when a bride choses one our dresses to get married in. We find that it so brave and expressive to chose a print rather than the timeless white wedding dress. A wedding is the perfect opportunity for a bride to express her joy love and true self, whether it’s sexy, powerful, romantic, masculine we love it all.
Our favourite looks for wedding guests from the collection are…
The Farrah, the Juliet, the Gigi, the Penelope, the Daniela in summer Garden Blue, The constance in yellow and the Antigone. Beware you might outshine the the bride when wearing these.
Our favourite looks for honeymoon from the collection are…
Our collection is always very destination friendly and there are so many honeymoon dresses to chose from. The Petra, the Esme, The Memphis, The Daniela, The Penelope and the list goes on.
Our favourite places in the world to skip the crowds are…
(Carmen) El Salavdor. I get so much peace being at home on the beach . El Salvador still has a rustic untouched feel to it. It’s not over developed and the nature and beauty is so powerful and wild. It’s a place where I feel very centred and find my balance.
(Joana) The mountains or the countryside during the hot summer months in Europe while most people head to the beach. I love Nature and how it helps me unwind, relax and just slow down the pace. Our family country house near Santarem in Portugal is a place I love to go to in August.
The best person to follow on Instagram for big-day inspo is…
We love @IDEA.ltd, Publisher and bookseller of Dover Street Market. They have the most incredible and inspirational vintage books that range from underground graphics from the seventies, The Art of Arranging Flowers, 1965 by Ikebana by Mr. Shozo Sato, rare books from the seventies about Ibiza and more. They offer a dream selection of rare books full of ideas and inspiration.
And finally, what’s next for Borgo de Nor?
We are about to launch a very exciting collaboration with swimwear designer Talia Collins, perfect for a honeymoon escape and beyond.
