Emily Riggs has built a life of resilience and purpose, shaped by early personal trials. Diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at just 9 years old, Emily’s childhood was marked by considerable challenges. A year into her treatment, she endured the loss of her mother, who died from breast cancer at the age of 43. Amidst these hardships, Emily turned to fashion as a source of comfort and self-expression.
Fifteen years later, Emily found happiness and a new home in the picturesque hills of Burra, South Australia, with her partner Tom, a fifth-generation merino sheep farmer. It was here that she developed a passion for Australian merino wool, leading her to establish her own fashion brand, Iris & Wool, in 2019. The brand blends style with the functionality and elegance of merino wool, and is named ‘Iris’ in memory of her mother’s beloved flower, symbolising enduring love and beauty. Beyond her personal achievements, Emily is deeply committed to philanthropy. Iris & Wool donates $1 from every sale to the Childhood Cancer Association, supporting families dealing with childhood cancer. Emily Riggs’ journey reflects the powerful impact of resilience, turning profound adversity into a meaningful and creative venture. Through her brand, Iris & Wool, she promotes a narrative of hope, compassion, and determination, proving that it is possible to find light in the darkest times.
