From a spontaneous spark at work to a surprise proposal in Wales, discover the engagement story of Cassie Capuozzo and her fiancé.
The Story
We had worked together for a while, knew of each other but never crossed paths. Out of nowhere we starting working closely with each other and, at the risk of sounding like a cliché, hit it off straight away. Effortless conversation, same sense of humour, clicked instantly and knew it was something we had to pursue and we did. After 4 years, the spark from the start never went away.
Dropping hints
Cassie made no secret of the fact she wanted me to propose. I’d let her show me rings she liked so I knew what to get when the time came but I (rather manipulatively in hindsight) made her think it was financially impossible at the time and was a few years away. Working in finance, I manage our bills and outgoings, so it was easy to mask that I had been funnelling part of my salary away for a while. I wanted the proposal to feel, for both of us, like it was my idea and wasn’t purely because Cassie had mentioned it and I think it was mission accomplished.
The proposal
Always have a plan B. I had known I wanted to propose for a while. We had booked to go to Lake Como for my birthday, and because it was for my birthday I knew it would be unexpected so decided that I was going to do it then. After airport security decided to search my bag and nearly give away the surprise, our flight and holiday got cancelled and the plan was in the gutter. Back home, in the midst of our depression, we booked a few days at a lovely property in Wales. After an afternoon in the hot tub I suggested we get dressed up “to celebrate my birthday”. During Cassies usual outfit video I got down on one knee and asked the most important question of my life and in an instant we both forgot that we were meant to be in Italy and celebrated with a lovely few days in the Welsh sun with our Toy Cavapoo Toffee.
The ring
Cassie had made no secret that she wanted an oval cut diamond. I had seen a white gold solitaire ring that I thought was perfect. Whilst browsing, the jeweller showed me a ring with a more delicate white gold band, oval cut with shoulder diamonds. Instantly I knew that this was the one. I wasted no time and bought it. Easiest decision I ever made. The tough bit was hiding an engagement ring in our flat until I found the right time.
Celebrations
After celebrating together, we called our closest friends and family to tell them the good news. We then wasted no time in planning an engagement party to properly celebrate. We booked a gorgeous venue in Manchester and invited our nearest and dearest. We had an absolutely amazing night, albeit the next morning we did feel quite rough but I would do it again in a heartbeat.
Outfit
In my original plan for Lake Como, we had booked a really nice restaurant and bought nice outfits especially – Cassie had a stunning dress and I bought a new shirt. So, I suggested we dress up and we both opted for these outfits. Cassie looked absolutely beautiful as usual. I couldn’t tell you whether I looked good or bad – I had something else on my mind.
Wedding Plans
We are getting married on 6th June 2026. We toyed with various ideas for our wedding in terms of venue, size and aesthetic eventually deciding on a London Wedding. Our ceremony will be in Fitzrovia Chapel and our reception at Pavilion Club in Knightsbridge. Two truly amazing venues that we are so excited to celebrate our special day in. Cassie already has her wedding dress picked out. We are currently looking at photographers and entertainment but are progressing very well with our wedding plans and despite the odd minor disagreement around various things, we are enjoying every second of planning the day together.
