Spa Review: The Grove, Hertfordshire

Spa Style:

Surrounded by 300 acres of scenic countryside, and within touching distance of London, The Grove is the ultimate luxury bolt hole in every sense. With an award winning spa, treatment suites and incredible rooftop pool, you begin to feel the stress ebb away as you drive up to the majestic estate with its rolling grounds and impressive golf course.  Nicknamed “London’s Country Estate”, It feels at once private and expansive;  a clever hybrid of grand estate and boutique hotel.

The jewel in the crown is the recently refurbished Sequoia spa, which is as upscale as spas get. A haven of tranquility offering  a choice of bubbling hot tub, sauna, steam room, vitality room, outdoor pool and  stunning glass housed indoor swimming pool, there’s a myriad ways to unwind for even the most  frazzled out bride-to-be.

Set the scene:

With its opulent interiors,  stunning gardens and delicious cuisine, The Grove is an undeniably idyllic escape. The walk from the reception to the newly refurbished Sequoia spa, which is the Grove’s gorgeous wellness space and oasis of calm, takes you through sprawling and impeccable grounds, enveloping you in nature’s soothing arms ahead of your spa experience.

Rooms:

The Grove boasts 200 rooms, 12 of which are large suites that offer sweeping views through large sash windows.  The decor is an eclectic mix of romantic 18th Century manor house sensibilities and modern abstract touches.  Opt for the large suites for the full country house experience. These come with the 4 poster beds you’d expect, separate dressing rooms, and of course the obligatory fluffy robes.

Food and Drink:

You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to dining at The Grove. You can indulge in great British classics at gastro pub inspired The Stables restaurant which uses locally sourced produce. The Glasshouse offers stunning garden views  and here, your tastebuds will be tickled as you enjoy a variety of beautifully presented live food stations with a stunning selection freshly prepared by the Chefs.  For the ultimate indulgence, enjoy sumptuous sushi platters in the stunning Martin Hulbert designed Lounges which also double as the perfect coffee spot for a lazy afternoon..  Sequoia offers spa visitors a light lunch in its very own restaurant, Sequoia kitchen where pre or post pamper you can, at your leisure, enjoy the sublime, freshly prepared Asian inspired plates which include poke bowls, healthy wraps and warming broths.

The Treatment:

Once you’ve checked into the spa and sipped a glass of herbal tea, it’s time for  a relaxing treatment.  For stressed out brides-to-be we recommend  the Ancient Ritual Spa Day. Using a range of products from ESPA it’s designed to beautify, relax and revive your senses. Everything about the treatment is devoted to calming your nervous system.

It all starts with a calming foot bathing ceremony and a sensory test where you’re asked to choose between different oil blends and find the one most aligned with your needs. The bespoke facial that follows is not only completely relaxing, it’s hydrating and purifying and is a real radiance booster to help you get a step closer to attaining that bridal glow.

The ensuing combination of lymphatic drainage, scalp massage and healing crystals is  alchemy that effortlessly soothes out and harmonizes any physical and mental tensions.  You’ll feel your wedding worries dissipate as the kwanza wand  glides all over your body, encouraging lymphatic drainage, stimulating blood flow and restoring your energy and balance.

The treatment does more than pamper, preen and polish, you’ll glide out looking like you’ve been given a new lease of life.

Go with:

it’s perfect as a solo spa trip for some truly indulgent pre-wedding self care but is also great for a girlie spa day with your bridesmaids or your mum. There is just so much to do here. In addition to being a  top notch spot for a spoiling spa retreat, you can play golf, enjoy the gorgeous gardens or even walk your way around the impressive woodland trails and explore the estate for the ultimate relax and reset spa break.

Prices from £350 for the Ancient Ritual Spa day. Available Monday- Friday 10AM-9PM
