When it comes to getting the best attire for the groom on your big day, two heads are better than one. Although the bride may have spent months (or even years) dreaming of ‘the dress’ for the big day, we’re not so sure that every groom has squirrelled away mood boards, Pinterest pins or sketchbooks for his suit. In which case, he will welcome the bride’s company alongside the advice of one of London’s most iconic tailors, Favourbrook. Going together also ensure that both parties are aligned style-wise, and it may also spark new ideas to add sartorial touches. Brontë King was thrilled with her day choosing fiancé Matt’s wedding suit for their London celebration and recommends it to all couples in the style-planning stages.
Tell us your wedding plans so far
The five-month countdown is on, and it feels like the big day is coming up so quickly! The most exciting part is that we’re having two weddings, one intimate family wedding for the civil ceremony in London and another celebration in Croatia with just under 100 people, right on the water. We’re especially looking forward to the London wedding a month before we head to Croatia. With only 15 of us, it’s going to be so special. Having lived in London for five years, both as singles and together, it feels like the perfect way to honour that chapter of our lives. After the ceremony, we’ve planned an intimate dinner in Richmond, on the river, which will be such a beautiful and meaningful way to celebrate with our nearest and dearest. As for the Croatia wedding, we’ve locked in all the big plans, catering, the band, flowers, photographer – so now it’s just about sorting the little details and bringing everything together. Thankfully, we have an amazing Croatian wedding planner helping us make it all happen, which makes the process so much easier. It’s all starting to feel very real, and we couldn’t be more excited for everything that’s to come!
Why did you want to go suit shopping with Matt? What is the vision? Black tie for London?
I was so excited about the idea of going suit shopping with Matt! I love that we’re doing it together and turning it into a special occasion in the lead-up to the wedding – and it makes the whole process feel even more memorable. For our Croatia wedding, we already knew we wanted a much more casual dress code, given the July heat and the relaxed, coastal location. We’re leaning into a linen, summer, casual and comfortable vibe for our guests to keep things easy and breezy. In contrast, for the London wedding, we decided to go all out with black tie. It feels like such a fun excuse for everyone to get dressed up, and it really suits the more classic and intimate feel of the day. Plus, it adds a lovely contrast between the two celebrations, each reflecting a different side of us and the places that mean so much to our story.
Where did you go wedding suit shopping? Describe Favourbrook and the vibe and store and what you loved
We headed to Favourbrook to find a suit for Matt, and it was such a fantastic experience! I had heard amazing things about both the quality of their suits and the in-store experience, so it was at the top of our list to visit. The location couldn’t have been more perfect – right in the heart of central London and so easy to get to. The store itself is set in a beautifully restored old bookshop, which gave it so much charm and character. As soon as we walked in, we were struck by how warm and welcoming the atmosphere felt, with natural light pouring in and suits elegantly lining the walls, showcasing the incredible variety on offer. One feature that immediately caught our eye was the waistcoat wall, a signature of Favourbrook. They’re known for having the largest and most diverse collection of wool and silk waistcoats in the world, and it truly is the ultimate place to find something unique. I loved how the store perfectly blends a sense of tradition with a modern twist, making the whole experience feel both fresh yet reassuring. It felt like the right place to find the perfect suit for such an important occasion.
What was the appointment and process like?
As soon as we walked into the store, we were warmly greeted by Julian, the store manager. He immediately put us at ease, asking about what we were looking for and taking us through the different suit styles they offer. From the start, the whole process felt incredibly relaxed, Julian was so open to our ideas and suggestions while also sharing his professional insight and expertise. He set up a changing room for Matt while I got comfortable on the sofa outside, excited to see each suit as he tried them on. What I loved most was how included I felt, Julian genuinely welcomed my opinions and involved me in every step, which made the experience even more special and fun. Matt even stepped outside his comfort zone and tried a few styles he wouldn’t usually go for, which was so exciting to see. With the incredible range of ties, waistcoats, and bow ties on display, he was able to mix and match different combinations, playing around with the look. But the moment he stepped out in the double-breasted black-tie tux, we both instantly knew it was the one.
Was it easy to make a final decision?
It actually was! Even though there were some beautiful options, there was something so special about the double-breasted black-tie tux. It felt classic, timeless and effortlessly elegant. It’s the kind of suit that Matt knows he’ll wear again and again for years to come, making it not just perfect for our wedding day but also a meaningful investment in something he’ll treasure. It also feels fitting to have a suit from Favourbrook for our intimate London wedding, as it’s such an iconic, London-based British tailoring brand. It’s a lovely nod to the city we’ve both called home for years, adding an extra layer of sentiment to the day. Julian was fantastic throughout the whole process. Once Matt had chosen the tux, he took the time to explore different styling options with us. He played around with a variety of pocket squares and bow ties, suggesting combinations we hadn’t considered and helping us refine the final look. His professional input was invaluable, offering ideas while still making sure everything felt personal and true to Matt’s style. It was such a fun and collaborative experience and, by the end of it, Matt’s wedding look felt not only perfect but also completely unique to him.
Advice for brides?
I wasn’t sure if going suit shopping with your fiancé for his wedding suit was the ‘done’ thing, but after our experience at Favourbrook, I would 100% recommend booking an appointment and going together. It turned out to be such a special and memorable part of the wedding journey and being involved in the process made it feel even more meaningful. One of the best parts about going together is getting to share those little moments of excitement when you find the suit. And having both of your perspectives helps ensure the final look reflects not just his personality but also the overall style and vision for the wedding day. It’s also a great opportunity to experiment! Matt tried on styles he wouldn’t have considered on his own, and having a second opinion gave him the confidence to step out of his comfort zone. From different cuts and fabrics to fun accessories like pocket squares and bow ties, being there together allowed us to mix and match until we found a combination that felt just right. Another unexpected bonus? It sparked new ideas for the wedding itself. Seeing the different textures and details made us think more about how everything, from the dress code to the overall aesthetic could tie together seamlessly. It also gave us a new appreciation for the little things, like how a statement waistcoat or a unique bow tie can add a personal touch to the day. So, if you’re on the fence about going suit shopping together, I’d say go for it! It’s a beautiful way to be part of each other’s wedding prep, and sharing that experience makes the lead-up to the big day even more exciting. Plus, having that time together, away from the to-do lists and planning stress, feels like a little celebration in itself.
