From a sunset proposal on a beach in the Philippines to a five-day wedding in Mallorca, step inside Josie Smith & Cameron Mitchell’s effortlessly stylish destination wedding.
The story so far
We met 12 years ago, our mutual best friend Em sat me next to Cam at her big 21st party, it wasnāt love at first sight, but we stayed in touch over the years and eventually in 2018, with a lot of pushing from Em, we finally went on a date, and the rest is history!
Cam proposed at sunset on a beach in El Nido, Philippines, it was picture perfect. We had just arrived after days of traveling, and it was the first night of a two-week Christmas trip in December 2023. The engagement itself wasnāt a shock as weād talked about getting married a lot, but the moment was definitely a huge shock, I couldnāt believe heād carried the real ring across the world and 3 different flights.
The ring is my dream ring and exactly what I wanted ā a round solitaire diamond on a gold band.
Venue Ā
We got married at Son Togores Finca in Mallorca. My parents have had a house in Mallorca for over 20 years, so itās always felt like home to me, and Cam too in the last few years, itās a very special place to us and we always knew we wanted to get married there.
We had already found the venue on Instagram a few months before getting engaged and instantly fell in love, we ended up booking it from The Philippines without even seeing it in person, luckily when we did go to see it, it was even more incredible in real life!
The wedding weekend actually turned into a 5-day affair (with 3 official parties and 2 unofficial family and close friend events either side). On the Thursday before the wedding, we had sundowner drinks at a beach bar near my parentsā house which was such a fun way to kick off the festivities. Then on the Friday evening, we hosted welcome drinks in a rooftop bar called Bop in Puerto Portals. For the recovery day, we rented Um Chambao, also in Puerto Portals which was the perfect setting for more rose, cocktails and food. The party then carried on into the early hours in Magaluf. By Monday we still had some energy left and had a family lunch debrief at my parentsā house, which was so special.
On the day itself ā we had my twin sister officiate our wedding, mixed in with personalised readings and speeches from our best friends, it was one of the standout and special memories from the wedding and felt so personal.
Fashion
I definitely didnāt have a āthe oneā moment with dress shopping, mainly because there was so much amazing choice out there and I liked so many. In the end, I went with a dress from Pronovias which ticked a lot of boxes, I wanted something timeless, which I could look back on in 10 / 20 years and still like and it needed to be something that suited 30+ degree heat for a mid summer, Spanish wedding. The dress was strapless with a sweetheart neckline, a-line skirt and duchess satin fabric, I ended up creating custom off the shoulder sleeves for it too so I mixed up the look throughout the day.
For my evening look, I had a Clio Peppiatt dress with hand beaded sun, moon and stars on, with gorgeous blue beads on the moon. I absolutely loved this dress and know Iāll keep it forever.
For my recovery day outfit, I bought a gorgeous lace two piece from an amazing brand called Bohemian Bond in Ibiza, they hand make all their pieces in Ibiza, I loved it!
Camās suit was from Suit Supply.
Jewellery
My necklace was a diamond, created from a pair of diamond earrings that my mum had made into matching necklaces for my twin and I on our 18th birthday, mine went missing for years and my mum found it a few weeks before the wedding, it was fate.
My rings ā Cam bought me a Cartier Love ring for my 30th so I wore that, with a vintage ring of my mums, as well as my mumās wedding ring and my nanās wedding ring as my āsomething borrowedā, all very special and personal.
My earrings were from Soru jewellery.
Bridal party
I work at RIXO so there was never any other option when choosing our bridesmaid dresses! They wore a mixture of the EVIE and VALERIE styles in a gorgeous hand-painted floral print, I loved them.
The ushers wore their own suits on the wedding day but for the recovery party, Cam had organised towelling suits from a company called Acquattitude, they went down so well!
For the gift, each bridesmaid got Stripe and Stare knickers, embroidered with their initials, a mini fan, tissues and a hand written personal card for each.
The flower girls dresses were H&M, we wanted them to be cool and comfy as a priority and they looked so gorgeous.
Transportation
All guests (including bridal and groom party) were transported with private buses from their hotels to the venue.
Tablescape
Our stationary was done by an ex colleague, Write On who hand painted everything, including an amazing illustration of our venue and each persons name setting.
We had round tables so had floral centre pieces and floral pillars and aisle arrangements for the ceremony.
The favours were a shot of Fireball which is personal to our friend group ā lots of dinner parties have ended with the Pitbull Fireball song and a shot.
Food & drinks
We used Fosh catering who were absolutely 10/10. The food was insane, our guests are still talking about it now! The canapes were delicious and something that was very important to us, we wanted our guests to be really well fed from the start.Ā
Dinner began with a delicate fresh cod starter, followed by a perfectly cooked Galician beef fillet accompanied by a smoked potato terrine. Dessert was a decadent duo: a silky dark chocolate pudding paired with homemade raspberry sorbet, and a tropical mango cheesecake layered with passion fruit, roasted strawberry jam, and a refreshing coconut sorbet – a truly unforgettable finale.
Drinks flowed freely, beginning with cava sangria, chilled cava, wine, and beer during the reception. At dinner, Studio Miraval rosĆ© took centre stage, while cocktails included a mix of Espresso Martinis, Margaritas, and Caipirinhas – a crowd-pleasing trio that kept the party buzzing late into the night.
Entertainment
Our best man organised the most incredible surprise and flew in one of my favourite old school R&B singers, Iyaz, all the way from LA, he did a set which was AMAZING and had everyone going wild.
Our favourite artist is Fred Again so it was always going to be ‘Adore You’ for the first dance.
We had a saxophonist play while we did a champagne tower and āchampagne showersā playing just before our reception. He then carried on all night after only being booked to play an hour, he didnāt want to leave.
We didnāt have a band ā as abroad weddings typically start later, we went straight to DJ and Cam had a go at DJing too.
One of my favourite memories from the whole weekend was just looking round the dance floor and all my favourite people were there, making friends with each other and just going wild on the dance floor.Ā
Beauty regime & wellness
My hair and make up artist was Emily Fawcett, she works summers in the Balearics and winters in Australia. I wanted something really natural and wanted to feel like me and she absolutely nailed it.
No pre wedding treatments, but I did buy a Shark LED mask 6 months before the wedding and used it religiously, it really helped my skin.
Favourite Wedding Gifts
We asked all our guests not to get us gifts as we knew how much effort and money they were spending by coming to Mallorca for our wedding. The best present really was having them all in our favourite place on earth to celebrate our love.
Honeymoon
After the wedding, we went to Borgo Pignano in Tuscany which was absolutely incredible, we loved every second of it, the perfect relaxing mini moon. Then for the big honeymoon, we are going on safari in South Africa and to the Seychelles island hopping over Christmas.
Advice
A lot of people are put off planning weddings abroad, but we found the whole process completely seamless, our venue came with an amazing coordinator Maia who made planning easy and was so helpful with supplier recommendations etc. If you have a place thatās special to you, Iād really recommend it, it was incredible to have everyone in our favourite place for 3 days rather than it all being over in one!
We tried really hard to enjoy the wedding planning process and not get stressed, being engaged for 18 months was a really nice timeline as we could tackle one big thing at a time.
