A champion of considered parenting, Laura Davies has led Scandibørn into an exciting new chapter while staying true to the brand’s Scandinavian roots. With a focus on thoughtful design, sustainability and products that genuinely support family life, she has shaped Scandibørn into one of the most trusted destinations for beautifully curated children’s interiors and play essentials. Here, Laura shares the inspiration behind the brand, her approach to balancing business with motherhood, and the trends shaping the next generation of family living.

Can you tell us about the inspiration behind Scandibørn and what led you to start it?

    Scandibørn has a beautiful origin story, and although myself and my team stepped in later on in its journey, what inspired me was the potential to evolve it. Being drawn to the minimalist Scandinavian aesthetic, acquiring Scandibørn allowed me to take that concept and develop it further by introducing new, beautiful product collections, refining the customer journey, and ensuring the brand continues to grow while staying true to its roots.

    How has becoming a parent influenced your approach to business, especially in the children’s space?

      I wouldn’t say becoming a parent changed my business instincts, but it definitely sharpened them. Being able to relate to our customers is so important and means we can be truly conscious of what really matters to families. In turn this makes us more intentional about the brands and products we champion. It also gives us a real appreciation for time (how little of it parents have!) and that influences how we communicate, the kind of service we offer, and how streamlined we try to make the overall shopping experience.

      What do you think sets Scandibørn apart from the rest?

        Parents trust us because we do the heavy lifting for them. Everything on Scandibørn is carefully considered – we consider safety, sustainability, longevity, and how it works in real homes. We’re not just selling products; we’re offering ranges we truly believe in, reassurance, inspiration, and a curated space where parents can shop in confidence.

        How do you manage the balance between work and family life? Do you have any tips for other entrepreneurial parents?

          With four teenagers at home, the key to balance is boundaries and flexibility. Teens need you in a different way than little ones do, but they still need you to be present. Be truly present where you are, let go of guilt, and create systems that lighten the load.

          What is your proudest moment since launching Scandibørn?

            Taking over a brand with such a loyal following is a big responsibility, so my proudest moment has been seeing Scandibørn grow and evolve without losing what customers love about it. The growth we’ve seen and the positive feedback from customers is what makes me the most proud of my team and everything we’re achieving. 

            What trends do you see emerging in the children’s market, and how do you stay ahead of them?

              We’re seeing a continual shift toward sustainability, thoughtful design, and play that really supports learning and imagination. In a fast-paced world, parents increasingly want toys and interiors that are safe, durable, and aesthetically timeless, rather than fast or disposable. Our Buyers are always tuned in to emerging trends and exciting new brands we know our customers will adore, such as Stapelstein, Tiny Harlow and Zoofamily all of which we’ve launched on site this year.

              Do you have a favourite product or collection that you’ve launched with Scandibørn? What makes it special?

                We’ve launched so many new collections in the past 12 months, it’s hard to choose! But if really pushed, MODU  has been a really exciting recent launch for us. These modular, open-ended building toys are as visually calming as they are developmentally rich, I love them!

                What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received in your entrepreneurial journey?

                  I’ve worked in this industry for 17 years and learnt so much during that time. But something that really stuck with me was the importance of “running to trouble”. Things won’t always go as planned, and every day brings a new challenge, but it’s critical we run to those problems and not away from them. Fix them, then move on and keep pushing forward.

                  Finally, how do you unwind after a busy day of running a business and being a parent?

                    Being in my 40s now, I am conscious of making more time to look after myself and my body. Walking, dance classes and pilates are things that are really helping me to feel brighter, and ready to tackle whatever the next day may bring!
